Editorial Policy

This page explains how Fintrovert content is researched, written, checked and updated.

Who writes it

Articles are published under the byline “Fintrovert”. Articles and calculators are written, checked and updated by the Fintrovert Team. We do not claim professional titles; instead we show our sources so you can check the facts yourself.

Sources

For rules and figures set by the government we go to the primary source: the IRS for tax brackets, deductions and retirement limits, the Social Security Administration for payroll tax limits, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau for consumer credit and mortgage guidance. We link those sources in the article or calculator so you can check them yourself. When we use a rule of thumb, like the 50/30/20 budget, we say it is a guideline rather than a rule.

Calculators

Our calculators run in your browser. Before a calculator that depends on official figures is published, each figure is checked against the official page and listed in its Sources section with the date it was checked. A calculator whose figures we cannot verify stays unpublished.

Independence

No advertiser, affiliate or sponsor reviews or approves what we write. How the site makes money is set out in our Disclosures.

Corrections and updates

If we get something wrong we fix it and, for anything more than a typo, note the change at the end of the article. Figures change every year, so check the date on older articles. Tell us about an error through the Contact page.
