List your debts, add whatever extra you can pay each month, and compare the two best-known payoff methods: avalanche (highest interest rate first) and snowball (smallest balance first). You will see how long each takes and how much interest you pay.
Debt-free in
—
| Method | Months | Interest |
|---|---|---|
| Avalanche | ||
| Snowball |
At these payments at least one balance never shrinks. Raise the payment.
Estimate only, not tax or financial advice. It assumes fixed interest rates, no new charges, and that interest is charged monthly at APR ÷ 12. Card issuers calculate interest daily and minimum payments often change as balances fall, so real results will differ a little.
How this works
Each month interest is added to every balance, every debt gets its minimum payment, and everything left over (your extra payment plus minimums freed up from debts you have finished) goes to the target debt: the highest APR for avalanche, the smallest balance for snowball. The "Debt-free in" figure is the avalanche result.
