The timing of the Pre-opening session is 09:00 am to 09:15 am. The pre-open session is consists of the Order Collection period and Order Matching period.
This session is thus further divided into 2 sessions:
a) 09:00 am to 09:07 am – Order Collection Period (Note: System driven random closure between 7th and 8th minute)
- Orders in Equity Cash can be entered during this time i.e. Normal Shares of Companies on NSE and BSE can be bought during this time

- Equity Derivatives (Futures and Options) however can NOT be traded during this time. F&O can only be traded only during the Normal session
b) 09:08 am to 09:15 am – Order Matching Period
- Orders are matched at a single price during this time. This thus decides the opening price of the day.
- The order matching is done in the following steps sequentially:
(i) Eligible limit buy orders are matched with eligible limit sell orders
(ii) Then remaining eligible limit orders are matched with market orders
(iii) Finally, Market orders are matched with market orders - During this period, modification or cancellation of an order is not allowed
- New orders too can not be placed during this order matching period
2. Normal Trading Session

Trades on Equity Cash without any leverage follow normal 03:30 closing time.)
